Chorisia Speciosa
(silk floss tree, kapok, floss silk tree, ceiba del brasil, crocodile tree)

We have a number of these spectacularly ornamental tropical trees in stock - all grown from seed here in the UK.

Whilst already known for being a fascinating bonsai subject we are trialing their suitability for use as a patio / conservatory plant. Chorisia Speciosa will drop its leaves when the temperature falls below 27ºF but is hardy to 20ºF (-7ºC) when mature. Young trees must be protected from frost.

Chorisia Speciosa - Silk Floss Trees for sale in UK!!!

Chorisia Speciosa is native to South America, but it is cultivated in many tropical areas around the world. The tree requires full sun and well-drained soil. It should be watered sparingly but regularly and kept on the dry side as autumn approaches.

The young trees start out growing fast, straight, and narrow, then slowly develop broadly spreading umbrella canopies as they age. The bulbous green trunk is covered with big blunt warty triangular spines and turns gray as the tree gets older. Silk floss trees typically drop their leaves just before they put on their spectacular autumn display of five-petaled flowers. The petals vary from pale pink to rose to purple or burgundy at the tips and grade into ivory with brownish spots or blotches at the base. The flowers are followed by pear shaped capsules filled with many seeds embedded in silky white floss.

Trees under 50cm are priced at £10 each. Trees over 50cm are priced individually.
